Matteo Maffei

Matteo Maffei joined TU Wien as full professor and head of the Security and Privacy Research Unit in 2017, after 11 years at Saarland University - CISPA. He obtained a Ph.D. in Computer Science at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice in 2006.

Matteo Maffei received an ERC Consolidator Grant in 2018 and a DFG Emmy Noether Fellowship in 2009. He served as a panel member for the ERC Advanced Grant and for the SNF National Centers of Competence in Research. He participated in the PC of more than 50 conferences, in the steering committee of ETAPS, and as a publicity chair of IEEE CSF.

His recent research interests focus on

  • formal verification of security properties for cryptographic protocols, mobile apps, web applications, and smart contracts;
  • cryptographic protocols for the security and privacy of cryptocurrencies, cloud services, and analytics.
